Joint Admissions Testing Program (JATP)
We
participate in the Joint Admissions Testing Program (JATP), which provides
cognitive evaluations for children applying to kindergarten through third
grades to participating schools. The test is administered on a one-on-one basis
by licensed psychologists, and takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to complete. Applications can be obtained at www.JATP.org. Please complete the form and mail to the psychologist of your choice with the application fee. The psychologist will then schedule an appointment for your child.
The JATP fee covers the testing and sending the results to the JATP schools you have chosen. The feedback you receive will be general (ability ranges). If you would like further explanation of the test results, you may schedule an appointment for an additional fee of $190.00. These consultations are provided as an additional service; they are not required by the JATP schools. The feedback session includes a written report, explicitly prepared for you. Although it is not recommended, some parents would like the scores for application to non-JATP schools without an office consultation. The fee for this is still $190.00 because of the additional time required to prepare the report.
The test administered assesses a range of cognitive abilities that are related to school readiness. The intent of the test is to assess a child’s performance under a fixed set of conditions It is not intended to test the limits of your child’s knowledge. Although there are individual variations, testing sessions typically last 40 to 45 minutes for younger children and minutes for children 6 years and older.
You will receive an overview of your child’s test results within two weeks. Test scores and testing observations are sent to the JATP schools you checked on the JATP card. If you later decide that would like to have the results sent to additional JATP schools, please notify the psychologist in writing either by mail, email, or fax. There is no additional charge for adding JATP schools.
